Have you ever heard the saying, “India lives in its villages”? A big part of that life comes from our amazing artisans—the carpenters, goldsmiths, potters, and tailors who make beautiful things with their hands. For a long time, these skilled people faced big problems. They didn’t have official papers to show their skill, they had to borrow money from moneylenders at very high interest, and they used old tools that made work slow.
To fix all these problems, the Government of India started the PM Vishwakarma Yojana . This scheme is like a big gift to our traditional craftspeople. It started on September 17, 2023, and is running strong in 2026 . In this post, I will explain this scheme in simple words so that every artisan can understand it easily.
What is PM Vishwakarma Yojana?
The full name of this scheme is PM Vishwakarma Yojana. It is run by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) . Think of it as a “government help package” for people who work with their hands and tools. The main idea is to give these workers a proper identity, teach them new skills, give them modern tools, and provide loans at very low interest .
The scheme will run for five years until the year 2027-2028 . The government has set aside a big budget of 13,000 crore rupees for this scheme, which shows how serious they are about helping our artisans .

Amazing Benefits of the Scheme
Now, let’s talk about the good part. What do you actually get from this scheme? There are five main benefits that will change your life.
1. Recognition (PM Vishwakarma Certificate)
The first problem for any artisan is that no one recognizes them officially. Under this scheme, you will get a PM Vishwakarma Certificate and an ID Card. This is like a government stamp on your skill. You will now be known as a “Vishwakarma” . This recognition is very valuable.
2. Free Skill Training with Daily Allowance (Stipend)
Many artisans are masters of their old craft but don’t know modern techniques. Under this scheme, you get:
- Basic Training: 5 to 7 days (40 hours) to polish your skills .
- Advanced Training: 15 days (120 hours) to learn new designs and methods .
- The Best Part: During your training, you get ₹500 per day as a stipend. You get paid to learn! .
3. Toolkit Incentive (Free Tools)
Old tools make work slow. To help you work faster and make better products, the government gives you ₹15,000 to buy a modern toolkit. This is given as an e-voucher, so you can buy the tools you need .
4. Easy Loan (Credit Support)
This is the biggest help for those who want to grow their business. You don’t need to give any collateral (like a house or land) to take this loan. You can get loans in two steps:
- First Tranche: ₹1 lakh loan for 18 months.
- Second Tranche: ₹2 lakh loan for 30 months (after repaying the first one).
- Interest Rate: You only have to pay 5% interest. The government pays the rest of the interest (8% subsidy) .
5. Other Support
- Digital Incentive: The government wants you to use digital payments (like UPI, Google Pay). For every digital transaction you make, you get ₹1 as an incentive, up to 100 transactions per month .
- Marketing Support: Just making good products is not enough; you also need to sell them. The scheme helps you link with e-commerce websites and sets up stalls for you in trade fairs so that more people can buy your items .
How to Apply? (Simple Steps)
The application process is easy. You don’t need to be a computer expert. You can follow these simple steps:

Success So Far in 2026
This scheme is not just a promise; it is working on the ground. According to the Labour Minister, the scheme has already registered 30 lakh (3 million) artisans in just two years! This is faster than the target .
Also, about ₹5,000 crore has been given as loans to the beneficiaries, and more than 20 lakh people have already been trained . This shows that the scheme is reaching the people who need it the most.
Conclusion
The PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2026 is a fantastic opportunity for our traditional artisans to step into the modern world without losing their cultural roots. It takes care of the three main problems: lack of identity, lack of money, and lack of modern skills.
If you are a carpenter, goldsmith, potter, tailor, or any of the listed artisans, do not wait. Go to your nearest CSC center today and get registered. Get your certificate, get your toolkit, and take the loan to expand your business. This is your chance to become a successful entrepreneur.
